Darbar catered our 100 person wedding in Greenpoint and everything went perfect! Manek and his team were all really on top of everything the whole way through. So many people came up during the party to let me know how much they enjoyed the food. They were prompt and professional, always quick to respond to any questions leading up to the big day. Much thanks to the manager for even helping me tie my tie!!!
We had Darbar cater dinner at our son's wedding last month, at a hotel in NYC. The food was excellent and very much appreciated by all guests including non-Indians, some of who were probably tasting Indian cuisines for the first time. Samosas, hara kebab, live stations for pani puri/bhelpuri/chaat papdi, malai kofta, were especially great hits. Manek was a pleasure to work with all along. He was on top of everything from day one and happily accomodating of our requests for menu changes that we made more often than once. He was always easy to get a hold of and prompt in responding to our texts/emails. The hotel messed up the dinner venue a day before the wedding, forcing us to scramble on several fronts. When I spoke to Manek about this, he assured me that he would make necessary adjustments at his end to ensure that everything went off well. He personally went to the hotel right after our phone conversation, discussed changes with the hotel manager and thanks to his leadership, the evening ended up being a highly enjoyable experience for all our guests. Manek made him self personally available during the dinner hours, just to make sure that everything was to our satisfaction. I would highly recommend Darbar for all catering needs. The food gets a 10 out of 10 and Manek scores a 11 out of 10!
HIGHLY recommend!!! We worked with Manek at Darbar to cater our Mehendi celebration and we had the best experience. They handled everything - they ordered and managed the rentals, they stayed in constant communication with the venue, and they set up the whole space beautifully. Our venue had some issues that posed some difficulties for Darbar, but they tackled every obstacle with such professionalism. And they were extremely accommodating with me about arranging a payment schedule, etc. Manek always answered my calls and was very easy to work with. And as for the food… it was a huge hit!!! We had three entrees - the Chef’s Special Chicken, Saag Paneer and Vegetable Biryani (along with sides of rice and naan of course). Everybody loved the food, and I will say that the Chef’s Special Chicken was the favorite dish of the night among our guests. The appetizers were also excellent (reshmi kebab, samosas and gobi manchurian) and so was dessert (kheer and gulab jamun). All our guests left very happy and well fed. Between the quality of the food and the quality of the service, my wife and I give Darbar a 10 out of 10!
We recently used Darbar for an upstate interfaith Pakistani Punjabi wedding in which the outdoor venue did not provide anything except tables and chairs. Darbar's food was excellent and exactly the right amount of spice for all audiences to enjoy, most especially their butler-plated appetizers. All our guests (older Desi aunties and uncles and non-Desis) really loved the various kabobs, fried fish, pakoras, and gol gappe/pani puri with tamarind and mint chutneys to match. Darbar also allowed us to customize the menu with many different options to allow for different dietary (vegetarian/non-dairy) and halal restrictions. We heard from the venue that there were some logistical hiccups during the wedding itself, but I think this would definitely not have been the case at a more traditional ballroom/hotel venue that offered more than just tables and chairs. I would especially recommend Darbar for event catering especially for ballroom and hotel style weddings in which the venue can provide more so the caterer can focus more on the food. Darbar also participated in a walkthrough at the venue with us 1.5 months before the wedding. Darbar also was able to provide waiter and cleanup staff to match our guest count, which can be hard to find with South Asian caterers. Manek, the owner, also made himself readily available to us over the phone during the entire process to answer any questions we had. He also met with us before the meeting at his Midtown Manhattan restaurant and gave us some samples of dishes and offered good recommendations without being pushy about them. Darbar also stuck with our original contract drawn up nine months before the wedding without any complications or changes to our contract and were able to accommodate some of the changes due to the venue requirements.
