This place has questionable business practices. The following is from a job post May work in extreme heat (non-weather and weather). May work in wet conditions (non-weather and weather). Noise level is low to moderate. May work near toxic/caustic chemical and with fumes or airborne particles. Will work near moving or mechanical parts. I don't want employees or my food near toxic chemicals. Ew
My wife and I worked with Blue Plate to cater an event in December, which unfortunately we had to cancel due to COVID. While we were unable to cancel the food, as it had already been prepared (understandable), we were told that we could cancel the bartender and the "after-hours" delivery fee. We agreed to cancel the bartender and had the food delivered at a normal time. It was very good and would have met our expectations for the party...unfortunately we had to eat it all ourselves (for a few days) after cancelling. Our concerns really began when we tried to follow-through on the refund ($225 total) for cancelling the bartender and the after-hours delivery. I've left multiple VM's and even spoken to someone in their office, and was told that someone else would get back to me. It's now been over a month with no response. Finally I called again today and got a response back...they would be able to process the $75 "after-hours" charge but not the $150 for the bartender. At the time of cancellation we were told that both could be refunded, but came to learn that they are unwilling to refund the total. The food was good and we would have loved to use them again in the future, as we live only a couple blocks away. However, based on their lack of follow-up and the change of tune on the refund, I would not use their services again.
Blue Plate Catering was incredibly accommodating of our multicultural, multigenerational food requests for our wedding. It was very important to my husband and I that we serve Filipino and Ecuadorian cuisine at our wedding, as an homage to our families, and as a symbol of the marrying of our two cultural identities into one - a difficult task that they smashed out of the park! They really listened to us (and to our parents, lol) and integrated all of our requests, and the food turned out delicious! Please hire them, you will not be disappointed!
I have been to several events catered by Blue Plate and taken part in hosting a few, and I can say without a doubt there is no better option for event catering in Chicago! The food is always innovative and delicious, and the staff are courteous, prompt, and attentive. You won't have to lift a finger on the date of your event, as Blue Plate takes care of it all. I'd like to give a special shout out to Elinor Harton - when my event was canceled under unfortunate circumstances, Elinor went above and beyond to return my sizeable deposit when she had no obligation to do so whatsoever. I can't recommend Blue Plate highly enough!
Blue Plate was our first tasting and unfortunately the tastings we went to after that paled in comparison to the quality of food and attention to detail. They were accommodating when we had to reschedule our wedding a year due to covid and very responsive along the way, especially when we were given a new event coordinator prior to our 2021 event. What I loved about them aside from the delicious food was that they paid attention to what was going on at the event. We had an hour delay due to a transportation company not picking up guests as scheduled and the Blue Plate team knew how to adjust food preparation accordingly. The steak was perfectly cooked and all food warm. The servers were professional and made sure to get to all areas of the venue for passed apps and late night bites. I truly enjoyed all my interactions with their team and my guests are still talking about how it was the best wedding food they had ever had!
